We
had another dust/sand storm early this morning, thought i'd take some
photos so you could see what a mild storm looks like. My heart goes out to E-Train and his family, if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. Website Updates : |

Today
after waking up and looking about, all I could see was flashes of
light all around me. I was in the middle of a huge electrical storm.
Lightning flashed sideways, above me, all around, made me think I
was right back in the rockies. Soon afterwards rain drenched the dusty
wasteland surrounding me. The rain didn't last too long, but enough
to last the walk from my tent to the work trailer. The rain is neither
hot nor cold, it's more of a regular room temperature. I was talking with a few people and wanted to give you an idea of how no copyright laws can become a very profitable enterprise. These are "backup" dvds from the local market. Here is a picture of the front cover. Here is the back cover. A picture of the DVD. Amazing at the quality of work done, they've now upgraded to dual layer dvds (DVD 9) so they can put 2 movies on each DVD at regular DVD quality. The only time you can really tell the difference in the packaging is when they misspell items like this. The quality for older movies varies anywhere from SVCD to DVD quality. Newer movies that are in the theater or just out are usually a very poor theater recording, not even worth your time to watch. They usually come in plastic sleeves but I have a lot of blank DVD cases to put them in. They are very inexpensive and plentiful here at the local Iraqi market. I'll post some pictures of the market in the future. After ATHF arrived I now have the perfect combination of Comedy, Action and Sci-Fi Website Updates : Added "Me" section to Iraq photos. |

A
colleague of mine mentioned to me he had experience with woodworking
back home and the plan devised from there. After borrowing a circular
saw from a friend and bartering for wood screws, we headed to the
local scrap wood pile. Finding many pieces of odd shaped scrap, throwing
it in the back of the truck and heading back to the shop to make a
lot of noise, we got started. After a couple hours of cutting odd
shaped woods into useable pieces, we compiled a set of shelves I wrote
up plans for. I now have a set of shelves to put my belongings on,
it's sooo nice to have some kind of organization. Here
is a picture of my new shelves. After creating that we have been requested
to do further projects for other work associates. More sloppy woodworking
projects to come! I can say that it was nice to work with my hands
and create something out of wood, gives you some fulfillment and a
sweat induced tiredness. (Not to mention we did it at 6am after 10
hours of work) In other news, I am now on my night schedule. Website Updates : Added photos to the new section. |

My
site lead is back from vacation and I got my wish to move to nights.
I'll be moving to nights in the next couple of days. I'll be working
8pm - 6am, 2000 hours to 0600 hours. For the people back home (before daylight savings) MST = 11am - 9pm PST = 10am - 8pm (After daylight savings) MST = 10am - 8pm PST = 9am - 7pm This will give me more time to keep in touch with the folks back in the states, also the US markets and companies. |

Batman
Cave |
Oct

I've
taken pictures of the batcave that was found near the mechanics bay.
An old Iraqi building with 30 foot ceilings was housing a bunch of
bats that hang out there during the day. I also took some pictures
off the roof of that building to give you a better overview of the
base. I am temporarily on a new schedule : 2pm - Midnight until the site lead comes back and I get a new shift, but it will most likely be 2pm - Midnight or 8pm-6am, depending on who gets what shifts. It's a lot different to wake up when the sun is already up, a complete change of body scheduling. Website Updates : New photos in photos section. |

Cookin
with Camel |
Oct

I attended a BBQ with the mechanics the other night, I enjoyed some
ribs and steak cooked up by the local boys. We watched Kings of Latin
Comedy 2 on a projector across a vehicle bay on a large white sheet.
The mechanics unit is from southern Cali, a bunch of good friendly
people. It was a great time, although the steak did taste a little
funny. If I come down with anything soon, you'll know what happened.
Hope all is well out there... Website Updates : The "New" photos section is complete and updated with new pictures I have taken. I got in trouble for having so many pictures of Iraq but none of myself. I enjoy taking pictures of everything else but myself. I did appease the crowd and put a few up, I'll try to get some more creative ones soon. |
