Phew,
it's been a while since I updated, I don't know where to begin. For
starters I hope everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! I'll post
pics of our Chow Hall decorations soon. I've been sick for the past few days with some unknown Flu bug that is spreading throughout the camp like wildfire. One of the many benefits of being a truck stop is that we get weird strains of virii and bacteria alike! Things that have gone on recently.. hmmm let's see.. I moved tents a while back in case you didn't know that. I have new tent mates which is going quite well. I've got my area organized and setup now so i'm not near as claustrophobic. Turkey day was a long day, all in that one day I purchased new running shoes and an xbox (Thanksgiving Sale), my TV came in from Baghdad, got a power converter, a TV stand, and a new roller chair. I believe my turkey day and christmas got mixed up this year. I have a ton of pictures to put up that I will get to very soon. Also another update, it's been getting as low as 38 degrees F here. That's even cold for me! Everything is safe here and all is well in the land of sand. Have a wonderful weekend. |

Changed
the website around a little bit. All the buttons, graphics, and even
the smiley faces I created myself. I feel better about changing the
site to all unique graphics as it makes it more personalized. I optimized
a few of the larger graphics, so it should load much faster for you
modem users out there. It should also look much better in Internet
Explorer. Thanks to all the kind people out there for their critiquing
comments. |

Well that rain came, and came and came.. I think it rained for a good
16 hours on and off. I'll put some pictures of the "day after"
soon. On another note, I took a few pictures off, so if you see a security sign you'll know why. Anything that had units numbers on it, here at this base, was taken down. Nobody has said anything, it was a "just in case" measure. Hope the winter is treating you well out there. Website Update : Spent a couple hours and made some new buttons for the website. I wanted to replace the premade buttons with some that I made myself from scratch. Thanks to E-Train for pointing out that Internet Explorer didn't like the design changes as much as Firefox. |

Crouching

I
took a LOT of pictures of the eclipse
and none of them turned out as planned. I tried many different shutter
speeds and varying focuses but could not get a detailed shot. I had
a "pod" of some kind, I couldn't call it a "tri"
as it was a block of wood.. Stabilized shots but still didn't get
what I wanted. I just think digital cameras weren't made to take pictures
in the dark, or at least this one wasn't, they seem to have difficulties
with it as i've seen. I posted a few of the pics I did get, it will
show the progression of the eclipse, although the pictures aren't
too spectacular, but you get the idea. I also posted a pic of our last bookshelf, remember that we're creating these objects out of : wood the army couldn't use or want anymore, scrounged random sized screws or nails, an extremely mishapen gravel surface, old circular saw, 60 watt drop light (we create these at night), dewalt cordless drill/hammer, bits of pencil and sweat. It's an enjoyable hobby.. I'm still trying to get used to nights, sleeping more than I should etc. The good news is that rainy season is starting and cooling the place down a bit. I thoroughly enjoy the thunder and lightning that has been going on lately. The greatest part is that it keeps the dust down and I can breathe easier. Of course people tell me that I it won't be so lovely when it rains for a week without stopping, i'll wait till I get there. Update (Nov 3rd) : The eclipse photos are actually there now. (oops) |
