The Long Haul
July 25th, 2005
Another day another dollar right?  Well my year has came and gone in this oven of dust.  What's next you ask?  Another year of course!  I have signed another contract to keep me out here until May of 2006, so basically a 10 month extension on top of my year.  I can't believe I've already been out here for a year, although it passes by quickly for me, it may not for others.

Why am I renewing?  A lot of people don't ask this question but may be curious.  Everybody I currently work with has renewed until the same date, making it easier to stay here as I know what to expect from the dynamic relationships that I have with co-workers and friends here.  I will have the same tent mates, same shift (most likely), same supervisor.  Although this monotony can cause boredom, it creates a stable environment close to you when you overall location may be chaotic.  I am safe at this base and intend to stay here the whole time.  Of course there is always the career enhancing work and location.  This job helps my foot stay in the door for intelligence government agencies and military contracts.  Just my job title alone and the many things I do here will help out immensely down the road.

So what's next?  I still don't know everything I will do after being here, but I know it will involve spending time with family and friends and traveling a bit.  I want to spend some time on the west coast for a bit and catch up with family.  Visiting the springs, getting a look at the job market, catching up with friends.  I'll probably spend some time in Spain to work on my spanish and learn the culture there.  After that, it's all open, with this dust bowl experience it's helped me be free of any financial binds for a while.  I want to try to enjoy my youth for a bit before going back to the career grind.

When will you be stateside?  I'll be back to the states around the end of year, I'll keep you updated when my vacation is and where I'll be.

I want to congratulate Josh on completing his year in Afghanistan and thank him for the wonderful blog updates he has done in that year.  You have excellent writing skills, you paint a picture so well and your humor is refreshing.  Enjoy life Josh, I'll see you at the end of the year.

Questions, comments, say hi.. Feel free to post in the forums or shoot me an email, I'd love to hear from you.

I see you!
July 21st, 2005
Hello everybody. I decided to put a face to the ramblings, as most blogs have a photo of the main poster.  I myself not being able to write a meaningful shopping list nevertheless a meaningful post, do not call my website a blog though.  It is merely my way to try to keep family and friends up-to-date with anything that may be changing in my little life and desert ways.  Thanks for stopping by most definitely!

A colleague of mine, that does photography on a professional level, has been showing me some various photoshop techniques on photo touch ups and all the workings of the camera.  Explaining how to use full manual and the what how's and whys of various settings.

On a bad note, unfortunately, it looks like my sciatic nerve is worsening as of late.  I pinched the nerve in my lower back a couple months ago while riding in a hummv for long hours.  It caused numbness and tingling in my right glut and leg, but no pain.  I did a lot of stretching and had deep tissue massages done while on vacation.  It seemed to clear most of it up and I felt okay to sit down for long periods of time.  Well, after taking the trip back to my camp and still continuing stretches etc, it has inflamed quite a bit.  Now I am at the point where it causes pain and burning from my lower back down to my right knee if I sit for longer than 10 minutes at a time.  Sometimes I can ignore it, but most of the time I have to get up and stretch my leg out.  I have ordered a high quality memory foam seat pad that is supposed to relieve pressure off the sciatic nerve and lower back and also a massager.  Hopefully this will be enough to get me on the path to recovery.  I am fine when sleeping or walking around, it's just every time I sit down.. any where..  I'll keep everybody updated on the status.

It's bearable and I should hopefully be fine soon, may all of you have a wonderful week and I'll post more on what's coming up.

Settled Back Down
July 12th, 2005

Front end of the website is back up.  Had to start out on a new server as the old web host server was having hardware issues.  I need to upload all the photos and web pages.  So for now there are no photos, just the front end.  Soon soon my friends.  All is well now.

Update:
All photo links should work except for the Iraq Photos.  I need to redo the pages and upload the pictures.  Let me know if you find any other errors.  Welcome back!
